Veeno, the Italian wine café is aiming to create the first network of wine cafés across the UK and is looking for franchisees to join its system.
This new concept offers a glimpse of Italian lifestyle by serving quality Italian wine and good food, in the tradition of Aperitivo, whereby each glass and snack are expertly described for flavour and ingredients.
Just like a wise owner of an Italian wine shop, its staff engages with customers to suggest different options and combinations of pairing its food and wine together for them to enjoy with their friends and family.
The café setting is contemporary and stylish with attention to décor, lighting and ambience that offers a comfortable relaxing atmosphere for customers. Eye-catching wine displays and photographic imagery capture the taste of Italy.
Nino Caruso and Andrea Zecchino, two young Italians, opened their first outlet in Manchester in 2013 and it now has 11 outlets across the UK. Caruso is the fourth generation of a wine producing family and Zecchino has experience in the food sector.
Veeno says it guarantees the best quality of product supply at the lowest cost. The wine comes from its award-winning Caruso & Minini family vineyard based in Marsala, Sicily and the food is carefully selected from the best Italian producers.
Favoured alcoholic drink
The company comments that in the UK wine drinking is not just for connoisseurs and recent research, commissioned by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, showed it is now the favoured alcoholic drink for 60 per cent of adults.
With this style of café concept, Veeno points out that the planning and alcohol licences are easier to obtain, in comparison to pubs for example, as it does not have the challenges of either a full restaurant licence or a late night drinking venue.
The cafés range from 1,000 – 2000 sq. ft. and location is carefully selected by the franchisor through rigorous geo-marketing criteria to identify the most suitable premises.
The investment required for a store depends on the size of the unit and contingent factors. However, the company says that it is generally lower than similar operators due to its highly efficient operating model.
Veeno serves a variety of wines, Prosecco and cocktails. Its menu includes house platters, bruschetta, paninis, meats, cheeses and desserts, such as its homemade Italian tiramisu.
It also hosts informal wine tasting events for groups of two or more, where the Barista introduces the wines alongside sharing platters and explains which appetizer complements each of the served wines. Blind wine tasting experiences are also available to challenge its clientele.
