Two self-confessed wine lovers have become the first two franchisees of the Broadway Wine Company that supplies premium wines to shops, pubs, cafés, bars and restaurants.
Accountant Munminder Gill has taken the Black Country territory that includes Wolverhampton and Dudley; and Sanal Sundaresan who has an MBA in hospitality has acquired the Oxfordshire territory, which he will operate alongside his wife Sreerekha.
Broadway Wine launched its franchise after entering into a strategic partnership in January 2022 with franchising experts and multi-franchisor, Taylor Made Franchising. With the support of its experienced head office team, the owners of Broadway Wine, Doug Brown and James Kemp, have now awarded its first franchises.
The franchisor says that both Gill and Sundaresan will run their franchise alongside their current employment, until such time as they are successful enough to support them and their families.
Gill, who has been in corporate finance for his entire career, said he needed a change: “I decided I wanted a franchise that I could start small and build up alongside my accountancy work. I did some ‘Googling’, found the Taylor Made Franchising site and from there, Broadway Wine Company.
“The company and the proposition were very attractive to me. Being one of the first franchisees is great news for me. The world is really my oyster and I’m excited about the possibility of expansion in the future.”
Sundaresan who has experience working in hotels in Switzerland, Dubai and the UK, said: “By buying a Broadway Wine franchise I am combining my love of wine with my background in hospitality and of course the chance to run my own business.
“My wife Sreerekha will be working with me in our new family business. I needed a franchise that I could run alongside my current job, until I was ready to commit to it full-time. I needed something I could start small and build up gradually and something where I didn’t need to employ staff immediately; Broadway Wine ticked all those boxes for me.”
Comprehensive training package
The franchisees have recently completed training at Broadway Wine’s Gloucestershire warehouse and head office.
Commenting on their training Sundaresan, said: “The training was wonderful; very informal, just the way I like it and it wasn’t too intense, just very enjoyable. We learned enough that we were able to take it all in. It was perfect.”
Munminder concurred: “Training went very well; it was a really enjoyable few days with my fellow new franchisee. The time flew by, and it was very sociable, as you might expect with wine involved. A really comprehensive training package, it had a great flow, and I learned a lot.”
As suppliers of a variety of quality wines both franchisees share their preferred wine choice with Sundaresan enjoying an Argentinian Malbec and Gill, a Merlot.
Broadway Wine said that the new franchisees are already in talks with potential new clients including an off licence, restaurant and local shop.
Doug Brown, a director of Broadway Wine, said: “Things have gone tremendously well. We’ve had great support from Alan and David at Taylor Made Franchising, helping us to franchise the business.
“Munminder and Sanal are superb; training went very well and now they have returned to their territories, full of excitement and enthusiasm about launching their businesses. We wish them the very best of luck and will of course be with them every step of the way offering advice and support.”
As a multi-franchise company, Taylor Made Franchising operates 10 different franchise systems, which are either owned or part owned by the franchise group.
