The growth of franchising in the UK last year was five times higher than that of the country’s economy, according to the annual NatWest/British Franchise Association survey.

Nicola Broadhurst, head of the franchise department at Mundays, the Surrey law firm, has been appointed as a Women’s Enterprise Ambassador by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). She joins a network of 100 individuals across the South East who have been recruited to act as role-models for women and to promote the benefits of being in business.
Schoolwear firm fails
National Schoolwear Centres, of Wymondham, Norfolk, which claimed to be the largest schoolwear retailer, went into administrative receivership in April.
A full member of the British Franchise Association, it was immediately removed from membership in accordance with the association’s rules on being placed in receivership.
Sporting opportunity
Bar Sport, the leading sports-themed bar operator, is now offering franchises. Scott Murray, managing director, says: “There is nothing else like it on the market with its choice of national discounts, or the option to trade free-of-tie, and a genuine franchise arrangement.”

New offices for the British Franchise Association in Oxford
The British Franchise Association has moved from Henley-on-Thames to a business park at Kidlington, north of Oxford, having resisted calls for it to take prestigious offices in London. The new site is about six miles from Oxford, off the A34. It is near Blenheim Palace and Bicester, the home of the well-known factory outlet retail complex. The association will initially occupy temporary offices on the site whilst its own freehold offices are being built. The address is A2 Danebrook Court, Oxford Office Village, Langford Lane, Oxford OX5 1LQ (Tel. 01865 379 892).
